Man in his 70s arrested in Marin for 4 murders

Monday, April 11, 2011

In Marin County, a man in his 70s is being held for four murders committed in the 1970s and 1990s.

Joseph Naso was booked at the Marin County Jail and is under arrest for four counts of murder. Naso is 77 years old and from Reno, Nevada.

Police arrested him in Nevada as soon as he was released from jail on Monday. Naso had been serving time for a probation violation stemming from another case. Authorities aren't yet revealing too much about the four murders he's been arrested for, but they did say the killings occurred in 1977, 1978, 1993 and 1994.

The Marin Independent Journal is reporting that one of those 1970s cases was the murder of a Marin County woman.

ABC7 spoke to a former neighbor of Naso, who did not want to be identified, but she did say she found him to be unusual. She said, "He had a little bit of a fly-off-the-handle temper at times. He was just an odd character, his behavior, and one of the things that was really odd was that he never had garbage pickup at his residence, he never had mail delivery at his residence, so those types of things were very odd for the neighborhood to see."

Authorities in Marin County and in Nevada plan to hold news conferences on Tuesday regarding these murder charges. They have withheld many of the details so far because they are still notifying family members of the murder victims.
