NAPA, Calif. (KGO) -- An officer-involved shooting in Napa happened late last night. Police say they had a previous contact with the suspect who was shot in the 2100 block of Parrish Road near Imola Avenue.
The suspect is a 25-year-old man. He was shot in the face by a Napa police officer just before 11 p.m. The sheriff's office is the lead agency in the investigation.
The suspect has been arrested before by a Napa County Sheriff's deputy.
"I know that we have had contact with him in the past, the last time being in November of 2011," said Napa County Sheriff's Dept. Capt. Tracey Stuart. "What was that call about?" asked ABC7's Amy Hollyfield.
"A deputy contacted him and arrested him for drug possession," said Capt. Stuart.
Stuart said that he was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and that the charge was dropped, but they put an immigration hold on him. They have not released his name and where he was originally from. The man is in a medically induced coma and he is expected to survive.
The sheriff's office is not explaining why the man was shot. At this point, there is nothing to suggest that the suspect shot at the officer. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure.
