VALLEJO, Calif. (KGO) -- Vallejo investigators believe they have the man who set fire to Mayor Osby Davis's law office last month. Maude Love was arrested for that fire and two others.
Police say Love set a funeral home and a church on fire too and ABC7 News found his connection to the mayor goes back more than a decade ago.
When Davis surveyed the damage of his burned out law office last month, he told ABC7 News he believed the attack was politically motivated.
"Well I can certainly tell you the motive was not politically motivated," Vallejo Police Lt. Sidney DeJesus said. "Mr. Love just has a lot of disdain for the system and the rules for which we are governed by."
Police say Love, 44, used an accelerant to set fire to the mayor's office.
According to family members, Love had asked the mayor to handle his mother's estate after she died in 1999. Love ended up being forced out of the house his mother owned. Family members say Love has always blamed the mayor.
Records show Love filed a civil suit against Davis in 2005, but a judgment was never recorded.
"We have been looking at him as a lead in a series of arsons that have plagued our city," DeJesus said.
Police also say Love set the Cooley-Riolo Mortuary on fire on June 6. The funeral home handled the service for his mother. He's also accused of throwing a fire bomb through the window of The Taylor Chapel on June 30. Family members say love always felt the church was evil.
Davis did not return ABC7 News' calls for comment. Love is in jail, charged with three counts of arson.
