SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- A 43-year-old Santa Rosa man who allegedly fired shots at his wife and a locksmith at their northeast Santa Rosa home Wednesday night was booked into the Sonoma County jail this afternoon suspected of attempted murder, county jail officials said.
James Carl Provost is being held in the jail under $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.
Provost's arrest in a neighbor's backyard this afternoon ended a standoff at his home in the 3800 block of Sedgemoore Drive, according to police.
Police said he locked his wife out of the house after an argument Wednesday night and fired shots at her and a locksmith around 11:30 p.m. when she tried to get back in the residence.
No one was injured in the shooting but one bullet struck a vehicle, police Sgt. David Linscomb said.
Several homes in the area were evacuated, and a SWAT team and a Hostage Negotiation Team responded to try to communicate with Provost.
Provost was not found when the SWAT team entered the house this morning. He was found hiding in a neighbor's backyard at the beginning of a house-to-house search, Linscomb said.
