Ralston Middle School in Belmont was locked down Friday morning after a student reported seeing a mountain lion across the athletic field on the other side of the fence.

Students were kept indoors as police checked the area. They did not find the big cat.

Classes resumed about an hour later but outdoor activities were canceled for the day.

Last month a mountain lion killed a deer near the school. Paw prints were found in the area.
