SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KGO) -- Airline employees at San Francisco International Airport received training on Monday to help prevent one of the fastest growing crimes in the world -- human trafficking. Congresswoman Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo, joined airport and federal security officials to provide the first training of its kind at the airport.
The program was developed as a front line of defense to enable airline, airport and hotel workers to identify behaviors of traffickers and their victims. One victim shared her story.
"Having been through this awful ordeal myself, being trafficked, I have a deep desire to help others escape from the monsters who are dealing with buying and selling human beings," said Petra Hensley, a human trafficking survivor and trainer at the event.
Hensley is also the founder of the www.sojkafoundation.org.
Speier says it is estimated that 800,000 victims are taken across international borders each year and forced into sexual slavery.
