Car slams into hydrant and Safeway in Millbrae

MILLBRAE, Calif. (KGO) -- Police and firefighters are investigating a crash that left a very big mess outside a Millbrae Safeway.

The driver of this vehicle says he fell asleep near the intersection of El Camino Real and Taylor before slamming his car into several trees, shopping carts, a fire hydrant and the wall of a Safeway. The store wasn't damaged.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital. Police are checking to see if alcohol played a factor in the crash.
