Last-minute same-sex marriage rush in SF

Sunday, October 19, 2008

San Francisco City Hall is keeping its doors open late to accommodate the rush of same-sex marriage couples getting married before the election.

The county clerk's office will stay open an extra two hours Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the next two weeks.

Many gay and lesbian couples want to exchange vows before Election Day becasue of Proposition 8, which would ban same-sex marriages.

Even if Prop. 8 passes, marriages that took place before Nov. 4 would still be valid, according to Attorney General Jerry Brown.
