24 Hour Fitness sued over termination

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Two Bay Area men are now taking steps to sue California based 24 Hour Fitness, alleging that they were fired for reporting workplace discrimination.

They are both former district managers with the gym chain. The two men say they were demoted, had their pay cut and were finally terminated for complaining about racist, sexist and homophobic comments made by co-workers.

The men's complaints have been upheld by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

"We know it was the right thing to do. And for two and a half years the blows to self-esteem, to pay, to inumberable things, to personal relationship is taken an incredible toll on both Reggie and I," said former 24 Hour Fitness manager Paul Drobot.

"These men, because they spoke up, they are beins squashed and justice needs to be done," said attorney Louis Renne.

The two men are being represented by former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown and former City Attorney Louise Renne.

In a written statement, 24 Hour Fitness firmly denies the charges made in these two cases.

The fitness center first started in the Bay Area 25 years ago.
