San Francisco State University's giant corpse flower is expected bloom either on Tuesday, June 30 or Wednesday, July 1.
The Titan Arum, found in the wild in Indonesian rainforests, can reportedly grown up to 12 feet tall. It only blooms over a 24- to 48-hour period, and the pungent smell has been compared to that of a decaying mammal.
The public is invited to a free viewing and smelling of the flower from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. The greenhouse is north of Hensill Hall on the university's main campus at Holloway and 19th avenues.
