Two BART directors want phone policy discussion

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Two BART directors are calling for a public discussion to set a policy on when the agency should cut off cell phone service at stations.

Last week, BART cut cell phone service at its Civic Center station to help prevent protesters from organizing. During a protest Monday, BART kept the phone system on as protesters shut down four downtown San Francisco stations.

Board directors Lynette Sweet and Tom Radulovich say the cell phone blackout last week was an over-reaction and is not a tactic that should be used. The protests began in July after BART police shot and killed a man, they say lunged at them with a knife, at the civic center station.
