San Francisco is fast becoming the Mecca of electric vehicles and automakers are taking note.

On Monday, several took part in the city's first ever "Electric Vehicle Week" at Justin Herman Plaza. It's an opportunity to check out all kinds of models, from a Toyota RAV4 to a luxury Fisker Karma roadster. Green vehicles are big in San Francisco. The Nissan Leaf generated so much interest among residents, the manufacturer had to open up a dealership in the city.

"Nissan didn't have any representation here in San Francisco at that time and decided, 'Wow, this is a market we need to be in,'" said Keith Rey, the general manager of Nissan San Francisco.

San Francisco is also fast tracking charging stations. Over 100 have already been installed in the city and there's legislation to get more operational in housing units.

The public is invited test drive the cars all day on Tuesday.
