Recent violence against transgender people sparks rally

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Supporters of transgender people will rally in San Francisco on Thursday in response to a recent spike in attacks.

A Mission District based organization for transgender women called the El/La Program says there have been at least four major incidents since January.

Officials say it's difficult to measure the number of attacks on the transgender community because most go unreported.

They say victims are either embarrassed or don't trust police.

Thursday's rally is at 6:30 p.m. outside the 16th Street BART station in San Francisco.
