SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A San Francisco police sergeant has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and hit-and-run.
Police say Sgt. Thomas Haymond was off-duty and driving his personal car when he apparently rear-ended another vehicle in the city's Sunset District Tuesday night. Officials say there was moderate damage to both vehicles.
A witness saw the crash and called police.
Officers followed a trail of debris from the accident scene at 12th Avenue and Lawton Street to Haymond's car parked in front of his home nearby.
He was arrested and later released.
A police spokesperson says he does not know how fast Haymond was driving at the time of the crash or his alleged blood alcohol level.
Haymond is a 22-year veteran and has been placed on administrative leave.
