SAN JOSE, CA (KGO) -- If you walked by room U-17 at Oak Grove High School you wouldn't hear the average class room noise like a teacher talking or students whispering. Instead, you'd hear gears shifting, typing on key boards, and talk of robots. It's where the high school's Eaglebots meet several times a week.

SIGN-UP: Get breaking news sent to youThe Eaglebots are students who spend hours after school building robots. The team recently won first place at the Northern California regional botball competition.
Now the Eaglebots want to show off their winning robots at the botball international competition in Washington D.C. this summer. The trip will cost $25,000. So far, the students have raised only $7,000.It's party because the 30 Eaglebots aren't just students; many have part time jobs, take care of family members, and are recent immigrants to this country.
Being a part of Eaglebots teaches them team work, dedication, and focus, says Eaglebots creator, Jeanie Romanoff. She hopes all of the students will be able to attend the competition.
Local council members, small business owners, and parents have already donated money. Still, the group is still more than $10,000 away from its goal.
