SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Over the course of this week, 12 national champions among 250 figure skaters will be crowned at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose.
The 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, held annually since 1914, will crown 12 national champions in ladies, men, pairs and ice dancing on the senior, junior and novice levels.
Past winners include Michelle Kwan, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brian Boitano and Scott Hamilton.
The champions will have an opportunity to showcase their talents without the pressure of competition in the Smucker's Skating Spectacular.
Several members of the 2011 U.S. World Team are expected to compete, including reigning U.S. Champions Alissa Czisny, Meryl Davis and Charlie White.
Richard Dornbush and Ross Miner, the current U.S. silver and bronze medalists, respectively, are also among the competitors.
The contest began on Sunday and will run through Jan. 29 at the HP Pavilion at 525 W. Santa Clara St. Tickets for the events range from $16 to $177.
