SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- Thousands are expected to attend a public memorial service Thursday, March 7, honoring Sergeant Loran "Butch" Baker and Officer Elizabeth Butler, the two Santa Cruz police officers killed in the line of duty last Tuesday.
The event will start in Santa Cruz with a motorcade procession of Santa Cruz County Law Enforcement and Fire/ Emergency Responders. The ceremony will be held at HP Pavilion in San Jose. Memorial for Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker and Ofc. Elizabeth Butler:

The procession is scheduled to depart Santa Cruz for San Jose at 8:45 a.m. The motorcade will travel up Ocean Street from the beach area to state Highway 17, then Highway 85 to 87 North towards HP Pavilion (>> INTERACTIVE GOOGLE MAP: Motorcade procession route).
The motorcade will begin staging at the Boardwalk's Third Street parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and the procession will begin at 8:45 a.m. The route is as follows:
- Third Street to Riverside Avenue
- Riverside Avenue north to San Lorenzo Blvd
- San Lorenzo Blvd to Ocean Street north
- Ocean Street north to Highway 17
- Highway 17 to Highway 85 south
- Highway 85 to Highway 87 north
- Highway 87 to Julian Street west
- Julian Street to Autumn Street south
- Autumn St to HP Pavilion entrance
Note: Parking will not be allowed on Ocean St. prior to and during the procession.
Public transportation to memorial:The City of Santa Cruz and METRO are offering METRO bus vouchers for travel on the Highway 17 Express to enable attendance at the memorial service. Vouchers are available for individuals with special needs or those with no other means to attend. Vouchers can be obtained beginning Tuesday at the following city locations: Louden Nelson Center

Alternate viewing location:
Santa Cruz residents who cannot make it to San Jose can watch a live broadcast of the service at the Kaiser Permanente Arena. There will be no tickets required for viewing the memorial broadcast at the arena, and seating will be first come, first served.
