Chinese Consul General soothes Asiana 214 crash survivors

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The two passengers who died in the Asiana Flight 214 crash were both 16-year-old girls who were supposed to join a group trip in Los Angeles. Monday, the Chinese Consul General spoke to the other students in the group.

The Consul General went to the Marriott Hotel in San Jose to try to comfort a group of teens who were on board the plane that crashed. It is the same group from the Zhejiang Province; the two victims were going to meet.

He gave the survivors toiletries and other essential items that were lost during Saturday's tragic incident at San Francisco International Airport.

Two other students remain at San Francisco General Hospital --one of them, in critical condition, had an operation Monday morning.

The Consul General's words seemed to have little effect on the students as they remain saddened by the events of the past 48 hours.

The Consul General spoke to ABC7 News through an interpreter.

"And I told them, 'You are really brave. You are very united,' and I expressed my respect to them," he said.

Following the meeting, the students were quickly taken away by some of the tour guides who say they are in too much pain to talk about the crash.

All of the students were to spend two days in the Bay Area, then travel to Los Angeles for a two-week trip. But now many of their parents are scheduled to arrive in California Monday evening to be reunited with them.

The Chinese Consul General also told Asiana Airlines that they must help the families of the students who survived the crash.
