Authorities on guard for terror threats over holiday

Ahead of this July 4th holiday, law enforcement in major U.S. cities is on guard for terror threats.

As millions of Americans celebrate the Fourth of July Wednesday, their eyes focused on the fireworks bursting overhead, local and state law enforcement will be on the look-out for potential threats. While there are no specific plots that've been uncovered, intelligence sources say it's likely you'll see a stronger security presence this year.

"There's always a concern during national holidays in the United States for the following reasons. It's symbolic to extremists groups to launch an attack and in particular to be successful on that date would be a big deal for them," says former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett.

Authorities are concerned about lone wolves looking to wreak havoc during an important American holiday. They're also worried about the Al Qaeda affiliate in Yemen which recently planned a new underwear bomb threat.
