Mar. 3 (KGO) -- There's controversy on the campaign trail for Presidential candidate John Edwards on the eve of his visit to the Bay Area.
Political commentator Ann Coulter has sparked some backlash after comments made about the Democrat during a convention for conservative activists.
Ann Coulter: "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot."
Democratic chairman Howard Dean has denounced the comment along with Republican Presidential candidates John McCain and Mitt Romney.
Edwards' campaign called the remark a "shameless display of bigotry." He will be in Berkeley Sunday for an afternoon rally at the YWCA.
