Former USC athletic director Mike Garrett has been named to the same position at Langston University, according to a report in The Oklahoman.Langston is an NAIA school located roughly one hour north of Oklahoma City. It's known as the westernmost historically black college or university in the United States and the alma mater of former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Thomas 'Hollywood' Henderson.
Garrett had vanished from the news since being fired from his post in July 2010. He had previously served as the Trojans' athletic director for 17 years, hiring Pete Carroll and Lane Kiffin, among others, and helping build an on-campus basketball arena, the Galen Center. He also won the Heisman Trophy while at USC in 1965 and went on to a successful pro career, starring for the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers. After the NFL, he went to law school and worked in sports business before commentating on USC games and then becoming the school's sixth athletic director in 1993. Pat Haden officially replaced Garrett in August 2010. Pedro Moura is a regular contributor to ESPNLosAngeles.com.
