Red Sox's Buchholz still hospitalized, but stable

BOSTON -- Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Monday the team still does not know what caused Clay Buchholz to have intestinal bleeding. The right-hander remains hospitalized but is stable.
"Last night he was hoping to get out today, but I was just in the training room and they decided to keep him a little longer," Valentine said. "Not because anything got worse, just because they want to make sure everything is as stable as possible before he's out."
The Red Sox placed Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.
Fellow starter Josh Beckett (shoulder) tossed a bullpen session on Monday at Fenway Park and the reports after were positive. The right-hander was placed on the DL on June 16 (retroactive to June 12) and is eligible to be activated on Thursday.
"He said his shoulder felt great," Valentine said. "Because we have him on the disabled list we aren't going to let the calendar dictate, we are going to make sure he is really feeling good. We will wait before making that determination and we'll see how he feels tomorrow."
Beckett will travel with the team on its next road trip, beginning Thursday in Seattle, and should be able to make a start at some point on that trip, Valentine said.
