SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Brace yourselves 49er fans, quarterback Alex Smith could be back in red and gold.
The impending lockout could make it difficult to impossible to make trades or sign free agents, so bringing in an upgrade at the quarterback position may be challenging.
New coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman say they like what Smith has to offer.
"I think Alex does a lot of things really well and I don't have a crystal ball, so I don't know what's going to happen, but I think we all see that he's very strong in certain areas," said Roman. "But we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out."
