Teens work 49ers game for Juma Ventures

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- With another sellout crowd at Candlestick Thursday night, in the crowd kids are working the game as part of a Bay Area non-profit that is helping economically disadvantaged children go to college.

Navigating the crowded walkways at Candlestick Park can be tough enough for fans, but some special high school students find a way to get through delivering hot chocolate to vendors and in the stands more students peddle drinks and food.

The incentive is more than a paycheck -- all of the night's hard work will help send these teens to college.

"Juma Ventures is a social enterprise, and that means we take a business approach to solving social problems," said Nick Hutchinson from San Francisco-based Juma Ventures.

Juma Ventures operates at six stadiums in San Francisco, Oakland and San Diego. The program now employs more than 300 students from low income families, foster care, and the juvenile justice system. It also provides emotional support and help with school work. Juma's goal is simple  to get these students to college. It sets up savings accounts for each students to help pay for school.

Since 1993, Juma says 90 percent of the students who have gone through its program have gone on to college.
