Tight end Kellen Winslow said Monday that he "definitely" is planning to play in the NFL in the 2013 season and three teams have contacted him to express interest.

Winslow said in an interview with the NFL Network that he has taken up cycling to get in shape for the season and that the Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers have expressed interest in him this offseason.

Winslow spent the first four seasons of his career with the Browns but was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009. His final season in Cleveland was marred by injuries and squabbles with the team's front office.

The Browns' coach now, however, is Rob Chudzinski, who coached Winslow both at the University of Miami and with Cleveland, when he was an assistant coach.

It's unclear if the Browns would still have interest in signing Winslow after agreeing to a deal with tight end Kellen Davis last week. The team also has Jordan Cameron, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 draft, at the position.

Winslow was traded by the Buccaneers to the Seattle Seahawks last offseason only to be released before the season. He later signed with the New England Patriots but was released just a week later with coach Bill Belichick saying it was for "personal reasons."

Winslow on Monday said "it just wasn't the right time" for him to stick with the Patriots, citing his wife's pregnancy and the stress of a long-distance move.

"It was just better for me to walk away," he said.

Winslow has one catch for 12 yards in his only game with the Patriots last season.

The 29-year-old Winslow had 75 receptions and 763 yards for the Buccaneers in 2011. In 93 career games he has 438 receptions for 4,848 yards and 23 touchdowns.
