Calif. considers tax on strip clubs

  

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- State lawmakers are considering a new strip club tax to help fund rape crisis centers and sexual assault investigations.

The measure would require the roughly 80 strip clubs in California that serve alcohol to pay a $10 per patron levy.

Santa Barbara Democrat Das Williams says his bill would generate about $35 million a year, every penny of it badly needed.

"It's unconscionable that thousands of rape kits go unprocessed simply because our law enforcement doesnt have the money to process that and achieve justice for women around the state," Williams said.

Texas and Utah have similar strip club taxes funding rape crisis centers.
