State property up for sale at auction in Sacramento

Friday, February 08, 2013

Thousands of dollars worth of state property goes up for auction Saturday in Sacramento, with some unusual items hitting the auction block.

Lots of the stuff was taken away from passengers at airport security checkpoints in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Burbank.

The state holds auctions every ten weeks. The last one brought in $96,000.

"The most unusual thing I've seen is the pre-Vatican altar that we have," said California Department of General Services spokesperson Michael Liang. "We also have a Mercedes Benz. Don't ask me how that got here. But obviously from CHP. We've had minibikes, we have an iPad."

State officials say the one thing they don't have this year are snow globes. They say they usually have lots of snow globes.
