Firmware update resolves HP printer hack

Friday, December 23, 2011

Tech giant Hewlett Packard has released an update to close a security loophole in some of its LaserJet printers.

Researchers at Columbia University claim the printers can be remotely controlled and even set on fire by hackers if they are connected to the internet. Palo Alto-based HP released a firmware update on Friday to alleviate any potential security vulnerability, but said in a statement that no incidents of unauthorized use have been reported.
