Around the Bay

ABC7 is proud to sponsor a number of events around the Bay.

Check back here each week for new community events we're sponsoring.

United Nations Association
Film Festival: "Individual to Universal"

Experience groundbreaking documentaries with 70 films from around the globe at the United Nations Association Film Festival! This year's festival boasts 10 world premieres and 11 U.S. premieres!

As one of the oldest solely documentary film festivals in the US, established in 1998 to honor the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it has grown and earned the respect of audiences and filmmakers alike for its fearless independence and integrity. In addition to providing early outlets for films, many of which later went on to win major awards and accolades, UNAFF prides itself in creating a community forum for discovery and dialogue about different cultures, issues and solutions.

In the eleven days of UNAFF 2013 we will show topics more timely than ever: from the streets in Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Syria to the topics about renewable energy, the impact of social media and cyber bullying, disappearance of online privacy, LGBT refugees and asylum, human trafficking and modern slavery, the ethics of photography and how The New York Times, Jewish owned newspaper, buried more than one thousand articles about The Holocaust during WWII.

UNAFF is committed to not only presenting films but also creating spaces where audience members can engage in ongoing dialogue about the topics at hand. Seven free panel discussions will take place during the course of the Festival covering topics such as the impact of social media, cyber-bullying, disappearance of online privacy, the ethics of photography, extreme acts of compassion, the failing brain, nuclear trade-offs and alternative economic models.

For nearly 90 years, Community Gatepath has been "Turning Disabilities Into Possibilities" by helping children and adults with disabilities achieve personal goals and live full and productive lives in school, the community, home, and the workplace.

Since our early beginnings, Community Gatepath has grown to become the largest non-profit serving people with disabilities in San Mateo County. Swords to Plowshares
Veterans Day Dinner

Be inspired at the Swords to Plowshares Veterans Day Dinner! Hear how local vets have shown tremendous courage in the face of adversity. Each year the Veterans Day Dinner is our opportunity to share our work with the community and truly honor veterans who have endured obstacles and suffering, but who fought to restore their hope, dignity and self-sufficiency.

Please join us to gain an intimate look into the inspirational journeys of local veterans who have turned their lives around. We hope you will join us to honor veterans and this year's Profiles of Courage recipients.

Proceeds from the dinner help fill in the gaps to sustain critical, yet underfunded services for our military veterans.

Swords to Plowshares is a national model for veteran services and advocacy. We offer the most comprehensive continuum of care for homeless and low-income veterans in the country. We work to promote pro-veteran laws and awareness of issues facing veterans. Our complete range of services make us unique: we provide direct services to more than 2,000 veterans every year.

Thursday, November 7, 5:30pm to 9:30pm
Four Seasons Hotel, 757 Market Street, San Francisco
