YERBA BUENA ISLAND, CA (KGO) -- Caltrans is already warning Bay Bridge drivers to begin preparing for the big change they'll notice after the Labor Day weekend closure to accomodate construction of the new eastern span.

When the bridge reopens, on Tuesday, September 8th, there will no longer be a gradual veer to the left as you approach the tunnel on the upper deck, heading into San Francisco. Instead there will be a sharp S curve.
The agency is giving an early heads up because the curve will probably mean a slower commute as drivers get used to the change. The speed limit will also be lowered on the upper deck from 50-mph, down to 45-mph.
