Gene Apodaca

Gene Apodaca
Gene Apodaca joined the Eyewitness News Team in October 2004 as a general assignments reporter.

He comes to Eyewitness News from Miami where he worked as a reporter. Prior to that, Gene worked at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida, KIII in Corpus Christi, TX, and KOSA in Midland/Odessa, TX.

Gene graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1996 with a double major in Journalism and Political Science

Some of his career highlights include covering the 2000 Presidential Election for which his station won the regional Edward R. Murrow Award. He's also covered the Florida Anthrax attacks as well as the aftermath of several Hurricanes which hit the state in 2004.

While in Texas, Gene reported on the Selena Trial, as well as the capture of the "Railroad Killer," which brought him to Houston.

Gene is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

Gene was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A majority of Gene's career has been in Texas. He enjoys being back in the Lone Star State close to his friends and close to his family.
