He was the first non-network reporter on the grounds of the Pentagon just 48 hours after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
He was the only local television reporter in the country to gain access to the UN Security Council chambers when Colin Powell made his case for war against Iraq in 2003.
And the first interview ever granted by Charles Graner, the man at the center of the 2004 Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal, was on camera with Tom at a military facility in Mannheim, Germany.
Tom's 2005 report on the government "catch and release" policy for non-Mexican undocumented immigrants was screened at the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Chicago. Within weeks, The Department of Homeland Security announced it would eliminate the practice.

Tom's work has been recognized with a prestigious National Headliner Award, two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, and an Emmy Award. He's also won more than a dozen additional reporting awards from The Hearst Foundation, Texas Associated Press Broadcasters, The Houston Press Club, The Press Club of Dallas, and The Telly Awards.
Tom is a proud graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville and is married with two children.
