Chef John Sheely, a 38-year culinary veteran, serves his guests comfort food at a sophisticated level that is typically found in world-class restaurants. Although John is a native Houstonian, early on, his heart belonged to the ski-slopes of Colorado. As a young man, he lived as a "ski-bum" in Vail, CO, where he supported himself by working in several kitchens. Sheely worked from the bottom up and eventually purchased his own restaurant. In the mid-'90s, he decided that he had skied to his heart's content and returned to Houston to continue his career as a chef. Sheely's comfortable neighborhood eatery, Mockingbird is a Texas take on the French bistro. Both John and his Bistro continue to draw praise from customers and critics. Cadillac Culinary Masters - Cadillac and ABC-13 have come together to unveil a new series recognizing Culinary Masters in the Houston area. This partnership was created in an effort to pay tribute to Houston's finest chefs. To qualify for this prestigious honor, Chefs must meet the criteria established by our panel of judges. Each month, the selected chef will feature a 'Cadillac Culinary Masters' inspired menu with proceeds benefiting the Houston Food Bank.
