1 of 19: Lying next to an anchor are the remains of the ship's helm and steering wheel from a third shipwreck just discovered in the Gulf of Mexico in more than 4,300 feet of water. The wreck is one of three sites investigated by scientists from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, the Texas Historical Commission, and the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University. The project was funded by donations and sponsorships arranged by the Meadows Center, and conducted in partnership with the Ocean Exploration Trust at the University of Rhode Island on board the Exploration Vessel Nautilus.
