LEAGUE CITY, TX (KTRK) -- A veteran who suffered brain trauma and back injuries in an explosive attack in Afghanistan is now getting a new place to call home.
It's a gift from the surrounding community in League City, recognizing Staff Sergeant David Worswick. The veteran and his family have been struggling since he was injured. They say the new mortgage-free home is a big help.
"The support that everyone has given us is just so amazing. To be able to give something back to my wife and family is big for me. I sacrificed a lot, but she sacrificed more, and no one really gets a chance to look at that," said Worswick.
Governor Rick Perry was also at the ceremony Wednesday afternoon for the presentation of the custom-made home. Worswick has two young children, and they've already moved in.
The group, Bay-Area Builders Association Support Our Troops, built and raised money for the home.QUICK HEADLINES | MORE LOCAL | GET NEWS ALERTS
