See what health inspectors found at Houston area school kitchens
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's time for this week's restaurant report. This week, health inspectors were not only checking restaurants, they were out making sure conditions at your child's school cafeteria are safe.
The city of Houston Health Department makes sure school kitchens follow the same rules as restaurants and this week, they found everything from food being stored at the wrong temperature to slime, but not in the ice machine!
At Riverwood Middle School on High Valley, inspectors discarded food after determining it was not being kept hot enough on the serving line.
At Stovall Middle School on Airline, inspectors also found potentially hazardous food; pepperoni not being stored at the proper temperature
And at Aldine Senior High School also on Airline, turkey and tomatoes were not being stored at the proper temp.
At L.C. Owens intermediate school on Turtlewood, inspectors found rodent droppings at the utensil area.
Inspectors also took a look the entire school and Louie Welch Middle School on South Gessner was told to "provide hot running water to the sinks throughout the school restrooms."
And finally, at Ashford Elementary on Shannon Valley, it was the drinking water fountain that had a problem. It was slime in the water fountain.
