HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's Saturday on tax-free weekend, and everyone's looking for deals on clothes, shoes and back-to-school items, which are often marked down and -- for a change -- won't cost you that extra 8.25 percent.
"It all adds up, so a lot of those pennies and dollars you can save here and there all add up to things you can buy like food and gas," Mauricio Mungia said.
We stopped at JCPenney at Meyerland Plaza Mall where shoppers were finding deep discounts, but many shoppers look around for savings.
"I usually go to different places," Keisha Cain said.
Even places you might not think of off the top of your head for tax-free shopping -- like Academy Sports and Outdoors. You can't get sports or fishing gear tax-free, but you can get things like clothing and backpacks.
"We have backpacks, shoes, tops and bottoms for all your boys and girls to be ready in style," JCPenney employee Maribel Jacquez said.
"Children's clothing," Mungia said when we asked what was on the shopping list for this weekend. "School stars next week, so I definitely want to take advantage of buying a lot of the wardrobe."
Mungia is buying a few things for himself today, but plans to spend tomorrow shopping for the kids. The three days of tax-free shopping are perfect for him.
"A lot of people are early shoppers. Some people are late shoppers; some in-the-middle shoppers," he said. "You want to have it spread out so you don't have everyone cramming the shopping centers at the same time."
If you want to take advantage of the savings, you have until late Sunday night.
