HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Some support was voiced Tuesday for indicted Harris County Constable Victor Trevino.
People who live in his precinct are posting messages in response to the constable's Facebook page, and county commissioners say they see no need for Trevino to step aside.
Earlier Tuesday, the sheriff's office releasedConstable Trevino's mug shot, which was taken Friday when he was indicted on four office-related felonies.
Apparently, the photo was trapped in their computers until now.
Trevino is expected in court on Monday. In the meantime, he posted a message to his supporters on his Facebook page:
- "I plan on continuing to serve as your constable and fight for not only our community, but for everything all of us have built over the past 24 years together.
"As with all great rewards come great obstacles. I ask for your continued support and your patience through these times and I ensure you when I am vindicated of these accusations I will remain the best constable by serving you with the same passion and commitment that I have for the past 24 years."
Trevino has no plans to step aside while fighting the charges.
County Judge Ed Emmett says he should, but on Tuesday, two county commissioners didn't see the need to join that call.
"That is something that would be interesting to see the public's input on that. I've had no one contact me saying that he shouldn't serve," Commissioner Steve Radack said.
"If the law allows him to stay, I wouldn't want to punish him unnecessarily," Commissioner El Franco Lee said.
Comments on the constable's Facebook page are offering prayers and support.
If he's convicted on the four felonies, Trevino could face years in prison.
