Pct. 6 reserve deputy admits escorting cocaine

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former Precinct 6 deputy could be spending some time behind bars after pleading guilty to illegal activity involving drugs.

It is trouble for a former Harris County Pct. 6 reserve deputy. Nothing from the court case so far indicates legal trouble for Pct. 6 or Constable Victor Trevino, but certainly a former staffer escorting cocaine across town is troubling.

On Friday morning, Tomas Roque pleaded guilty in federal court. Back in December, he showed up in his Pct. 6 deputy's uniform to escort a load of cocaine across Houston. He told the judge he was there in case the driver was stopped by police. He was paid $2,000. What he didn't know is that the driver was an FBI informant.

Roque has agreed to cooperate with federal agents to reduce his sentence. On Friday, he wouldn't answer questions about whether any of his Pct. 6 colleagues knew about the crime.

"Mr. Roque's accepted responsibility for his actions today. That's all I can say," his lawyer, Mervyn Mosbacher.

Roque is set to be sentenced this fall. He is likely to spend time in federal prison. He was fired as a volunteer reserve deputy after his arrest in December. Back then, Trevino called it a dark day for law enforcement.
