Body found near where doctor disappeared

(12/09/05 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- A week-long search for a missing woman may have come to an end Friday. Investigators believe they've found the body of a Spring Branch area doctor in an abandoned building near her office.

It's been an emotional week for family and friends of Dr. Melinda Superville.

Dr. Superville went missing last Friday and every day since then, her husband, friends, and members of Equusearch have looked for her. On Friday, they decided to check some of the old abandoned houses near her office. That's where the body was found.

"I'm glad that we found her because we needed the closure for her family," said family friend Susan Haass. "I can't describe how I feel about her being found like this. It's worst case scenario. We've probably all had a feeling because it's been a week."

On Friday, her brother refused to talk to reporters and her husband did not come to the scene. At the moment, police aren't confirming the body is that of Dr. Superville, although they say it appears to be her.

"The body was found by people who were looking for Dr. Superville," said Sgt. David Crane with the Houston Police Department. "At this point and time, we're not prepared to say this is Dr. Superville. But we're not going to overlook the obvious that it very well may be. Our homicide investigators are on the scene now, processing the scene."

Houston police continue to investigate.
