Officer wins temporary restraining order over HPD

(2/02/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- A police officer who criticized HPD chase policy after a recent chase and crash has scored a legal victory.

A judge granted Officer Thomas Nixon's request for a temporary restraining order, which allows Nixon to talk about HPD and its policies. He argued that the department violated his right to free speech.

But Nixon will remain on desk duty. The department pulled Nixon off patrol duty when the officer said he was embarrassed to be a police officer after the January 18th chase and crash, hitting a car with two women and a baby. All suffered minor injuries.
