Council member calls for independent audit in bonus scandal

Thursday, February 23, 2006

A political rival of Mayor Pro Tem Carol Alvarado is now offering money from her own budget to help investigate the city hall bonus scandal.

City council member Shelly Sekula-Gibbs is calling for an independent audit of all departments affected. In a memo obtained Thursday, Sekula-Gibbs made an official request, and offered $10,000 from her council office's budget to help pay for the audit.

Four employees in the pro tem's office are on leave, accused of receiving more than $100,000 in bonuses and pay raises without proper authorization.
