Dallasites earn slightly more than Houstonians, survey says

Sunday, March 12, 2006

The city of Dallas is higher on the map and now higher on the salary scale than Houston, with Dallasites earning an average $561 more a year than Houston residents, according to a survey by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Houstonians earn an average of $18.85 an hour, or $39,203 a year, according to the recent wage survey. Dallas residents make $19.12 hourly, or $39,764 each year.

But both cities still pay their workers the highest wages in Texas. Experts attributed that fact to the high-paying industries located in each metropolis, noting Houston's focus on energy and Dallas' concentration of financial services.
