Search continues for missing three-year-old boy

Sunday, April 09, 2006

While searchers look for a missing three-year-old boy, police officers did some searching of their own Sunday inside the apartment of the youngster's father. Investigators bagged some items for closer examination.

Kendrick Jackson has been missing since 10am Friday morning. His mother, father, and stepmother have all been questioned by police over the past couple of days.

"Kendrick, I love you and miss you," said a tearful Keyanna Jackson, Kendrick's mother, Sunday. "I just want my baby. Please bring him home."

As Jackson pleaded for her son's safe return, the search for the missing boy stretched into a third day. Volunteers from Equusearch and the Laura Recovery Center combed through miles of brush.

Volunteer Gene Robinson used a remote control plane and photographed empty fields close to where Kendrick was last seen.

"You can see that I was way down there and way down there," he said, pointing from one direction to the opposite one. "So it's easy for me to cover a mile of area quickly."

Although the camera snapped 75 pictures during the short flight, none of them led to the boy.

Possibly the most productive search of the day was when police removed several bags of evidence, including a mop from Jackson's father's apartment. Friday, Roderick Fountain reported his son missing after he said the three-year-old disappeared from the apartment while he was upstairs. Since then, police have taken both parents in for questioning several times.

"Certainly, they of all people, are most interested in bringing this child home, so it wouldn't be unusual that they would be questioned extensively," said Sgt. Nate McDuell with the Houston Police Department.

Still, Jackson insists she has no idea what happened to her boy and doubts his father does, either.

Police have given several people involved in the investigation polygraph tests. We don't know the results of those tests yet. At this point, police continue to ask for help from the public to find Kendrick Jackson.

If you've seen Kendrick Jackson, you're asked to call Houston police or Texas Equusearch. Nobody is facing any charges in connection with his disappearance.
