Large gator captured near Katy

Wednesday, May 24, 2006

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says we may see an increase in alligator sightings in the next few months because it's gator mating season.

On Tuesday, a large gator was found close to Saums Road and Greenhouse near Katy. It measures 10 feet, four inches long and weighs between 350 to 400 pounds. Workers at a nearby topsoil business first spotted the alligator in a small creek.

"It's the first time I've ever seen an alligator in Katy," said witness Grandon Guzman. "It's eight feet. It tripped us out, scared the hell out of us. We walked up there, started hissing at us."

"It's a shame that we have to remove them from an area where they belong, but it has to be done," said Paul Miller with Nuisance Wildlife Control.

A removal team tied the animal up before hauling it away. Anyone who spots an alligator should call the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
