Bicyclist seriously injured in accident with METRO bus

Thursday, June 01, 2006

A man is recovering from serious injuries after he was hit by a METRO bus in northwest Houston overnight.

The bus, which was on a maintenance run, was going down the feeder road of Beltway 8 near Imperial Valley when it hit that man on a bicycle. The impact shattered the bus's windshield and sent the man flying into a grassy area. Other drivers saw the crash and immediately called 911. Eyewitness Carl Williams said, "Oh, he was real bad. He had a big old hole in the back of his head, bone coming out of his wrist and he was asking what happened."

The man suffered a broken arm and serious head injuries, but he was conscious and talking when crews rushed him to the hospital. Only the bus driver was on the bus at the time of the accident and he was questioned.
