Pasadena officer accused of having sex on the job

Saturday, June 03, 2006

Pasadena residents are reacting to news that one of the city's officers is accused of having sex, not only on the job, but at police headquarters.

It's the place police officers go to drop off crime scene evidence, but now the police property room may be holding evidence of a sexual kind.

"It doesn't scare me, but I think it's ridiculous," said Pasadena resident Connie Arredondo.

Pasadena police first got wind of the allegations early in May. An outside source, they say, alerted them that one of their own, an ID tech, was having sex on the job. That officer, who once worked in the property room, reportedly had sex there more than once. That's an allegation that troubles at least one taxpayer.

"I think he should be fired," said Arredeondo. "Wasting money that way when they're low on police power already."

Pasadena police say the officer in question denies any wrongdoing. In a statement, they write,

"...this should not be a reflection of the entire department. If the allegations are true, this should be a reflection of the officer who did this."
Resident Jeff Landry couldn't agree more.

"Pasadena police offers are real good people," he said. "One bad apple in the barrel don't make the whole barrel rotten."

That officer remains on the job. Police say since he has limited contact with the public, he poses no risk. It's a decision Mario Torres doesn't like, considering the allegations.

"He's supposed to be working," he told us. "It's a job, not a place to go have sex."

Police say the investigation is almost complete and if the allegations prove to be true, the officer does face disciplinary actions, including termination.
