Off-duty firefighter has bagpipes stolen

Thursday, June 15, 2006

An off-duty Houston firefighter became the victim of a crime as he had lunch at a restaurant Wednesday afternoon.

Hunter Schappaugh was walking back to his SUV when he noticed his window was shattered. He looked inside and realized his work ID cards, briefcase, and bagpipes were stolen. Schappaugh played the pipes for the fire department for eight years.

"The type of people who do this don't care about anything," said Schappaugh. "The fact that I was a firefighter or whatever, they wouldn't care."

Schappaugh hopes insurance will cover the loss. Houston police are investigating.
