(8/07/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- The teachers headed back to campus Monday to prepare lesson plans and set up their classrooms. They have a week to get things all squared away before students start classes next Monday.
HISD has about 1,000 new teachers entering the district this school year.
"My goal is working with the children, is for them to become socially involved with their peers, not only to learn academic things, but to treat them as little people to develop them socially, emotionally," said bilingual teacher Alejandra Perez. "Try to be as stable with them as possible."
During the week, the teachers will attend training sessions at their schools and collaborate on plans to improve student performance.
