Light rail train slams into car on tracks near downtown

(9/03/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) (KTRK) -- One of METRO's trains is in need of some repairs after it slammed into a car near downtown.

The crash happened Sunday afternoon on San Jacinto near Southmore. Police say the driver, who was not familiar with the area, stopped on the tracks. The train hit the car before the driver was able to get out of the way.

No injuries were reported. This is the first light rail accident that METRO has had in more than a month.
